Individual Registration Tips:

You may register up to 10 individual team members at a time by selecting “Individual Student Registration” and the number of students. Only students and faculty may register. Each registered student MUST compete in an event. Non-registered guests may observe the conference but will not be provided conference food or items. Fill out the appropriate information and click the “Register” button to continue. Each university team is composed of a maximum of 60 students participating in regional, national, and spirit competitions. Advisors do not count towards the team total but should sign up through the same process.
At Check-In, each school will receive a sheet of stickers representing each competition. Participants must place the competition stickers that they are participating in on their name badges. If you do not have a ASCE national number, please fill in with zeros.

Q&A

Updated 1/28/18

  1. 1/8/18 When registering our student members, we are asked to select what competition the specific student will be competing in. For example, if Student A, B, and C are signed up to compete in Orienteering, are they the only students that can compete in this specific competition? With filling competition rosters by the registration deadline, we don’t want to put ourselves into a tight spot in the instance that one of the registered students ends up not travelling/ or we decide to put someone else into that spot for a specific competition.
For the registration – that selection is not binding. We definitely understand if someone could not make it at the last minute. Just make sure to fill it out with the desired team members but if something comes up at the last minute please email info@se-asce2018.com. If you have people drop out just make sure to replace them (they can compete in multiple competitions) and make sure to have the correct number of team members for said competition.
  2. 1/17/2018 We have already registered as a school back on the first deadline, however how do we register each student? Is our student registration deadline the same as individual?
The student registration is the same as the individual registration. Each student may register by themselves OR (preferred method) your conference leader can register to up to 10 students at a time – in this case the second page of the registration (the contact info) should be the contact information of the conference leader.
  3. 1/18/18 I am wondering if I leave the “What competition are you competing in?” tab as “None” if people will still be able to participate in a competition if they desire to do so.
The “None” can be used for professors and advisors. We would like for each registered student to intend on participating in at least one competition. The registration competition selection is not binding. Please fill out registration with the desired team member but if something comes up last minute, email info@se-asce2018.com. If you have students drop out, make sure you replace them to have the correct number of team members in each competition. If a student does not want to compete, they have the opportunity to volunteer or attend as a guest. I encourage them to compete or volunteer because as a guest, they will not receive any conference goods or attend the award ceremony. 4. 1/19/18 The last day for students to register for conference at the $55 rate is January 22nd. At what time of the day does this cut off? 5:00pm? 11:59pm?
The day cuts off at 11:55PM. We have extended the $55 rate until January 29th. 1/23/18 I have a few members that are participating in the spirit competitions and selected none as the competition they were participating in on the dropdown box. I just wanted to make sure they weren’t being marked as volunteers or spectators. We recommend that students participating in spirit competitions also work on a regional team.We will make a note on your registration about “none” being used as spirit. There shouldn’t be any mix up with your team because volunteers use a different registration site and spectators pay a different fee. Remember, the maximum number of registered participants (not including faculty or advisors) should be 60.

  6. 1/28/18 We had one of our PhD students say they would like to compete. Is that allowed for this conference or is it limited to undergrads?
You are allowed to have PhD students compete at conference, they are allowed to compete in any of the regional competitions but will not be allowed to compete in the Traffic Trailblazers competition

I want to ask, the guest fee of  $25 includes the banquet dinner?
Guests and family members are welcome to watch and attend all the event throughout conference except the awards ceremony. The $25 guest ticket includes entrance to the awards ceremony (3/3) and access to all the food that is served at the ceremony.

When I go to do so, it asks for each students’ ASCE membership ID which is something I don’t have, nor do they have to my knowledge. How shall I proceed?
Each student attending our conference should be a National Member of ASCE.  The good news, is that this membership is free for students.  I’ve included some instructions below that you can share with the students.  Professors and other non student attendees can simply input “none” in the member number box.
    To Join ASCE:
    Navigate to https://www.asce.org/join/
Scroll down to Student and click “Sign Up Now”
Input information and join. (Please note, although the national membership is free, it may ask if you would like to join a local branch.  This is not free, but is optional.
    To retrieve member number:
    Navigate to https://www.asce.org/
Under the Membership & Communities Menu, Click “Manage Your Account”
The Member ID can be found under the memberships tab.

What the answer is saying is that the spirit competitions do NOT count toward a technical team and therefore participants should also sign up to participate on one of the regional teams as well?
Spirit competitions DO count towards a technical team and therefore participants should also sign up to participate on one of the regional teams. As long as your teams don’t go over the 60 person limit, we don’t care if they register with a regional competition, national competition, or spirit competition. The people competing in spirit competitions, regional competitions, and national competitions count towards your team total of no more than 60. Advisors do not count to the 60 person cap.

Hurricane Relief

The Southeast ASCE Region aid in in relief efforts after Hurricane Maria. Universities have the opportunity to sponsor a Puerto Rican student to attend the conference by paying for their $55 registration fee. If your school would like to sponsor a student please check the “Support Puerto Rico Student Registration” option on the registration page and select the number of students your chapter would like to support.
